The Modern Dance Theater to Second Life and back @ the K-LAB

The installation MDT to Second Life and Back is based on an event happening simultaneously at The Office (92,59,30) in SL and at the School of Architecture in Stockholm. The project aims to explore the borders between Second Life and First Life.

1.
Each of the two stages consists of four empty screens. The stage in Second Life is linked to an interactive seating.

2.
The Second Life audience changes the appearance of the stage by sitting and moving around on the scripted seating. Every seat initiates a different action that transforms the set design.

Projections from Second Life change the space in First Life according to how the virtual audience triggers different colors and patterns. The anonymous audience in Second Life is consequently not only changing the stage in the virtual world, but also transforming the space in First Life.

3.
Choreographed avatars give a dance performance on the stage in Second Life. The dancing avatars simultaneously appear on the four screens in First Life. The First Life audience can walk around in the installation and get a sensation of being on the stage with the avatars.

Since the installation in Stockholm is video streamed back into Second Life the virtual audience has the possibility to follow how their dance and their activities on the Second Life-seating influence the audience in First Life.
